Honey is a natural ingredient that can be beneficial for people with oily skin. Know how to use honey for oily skin and get rid of problems.

If you have oily skin you know the struggle to select the best skincare products is real! People with oily skin easily develop acne, clogged pores, blackheads, and greasy skin. When the skin generates too much sebum, it attracts dirt and bacteria, leading to additional skin problems. One natural ingredient that can work for you is honey! Packed with antioxidants and antibacterial properties, honey can regulate oil production, reduce acne, and improve overall skin health. If you have not tried it already, you should try honey for oily skin and get rid of all the problems.

What is honey?

Honey is a natural sweetener produced by bees from the nectar of flowers. This process transforms the nectar into honey which has paved its way to many skincare products. Honey has a golden colour and a slightly floral aroma, although its exact flavour can vary, depending on the types of flowers used to make it. This viscous, golden liquid is rich in antibacterial, antifungal, and moisturising properties, found a study published in the Pharmacognosy Research. It also contains various compounds like glucose, fructose, and amino acids, making it a versatile ingredient for food and skincare.

Honey for oily skin: How does it help?

Honey is beneficial for oily skin due to its antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties, as found in a study published in the Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Biomedicine. Honey contains natural enzymes that have antibacterial properties. These enzymes help to kill harmful bacteria that can contribute to acne breakouts which is a major problem of oily skin. Honey’s anti-inflammatory properties may help to soothe and decrease acne-related redness and swelling. It helps to calm the oily skin, by preventing it from producing excess oil.

“Additionally, honey also contains humectant qualities that attract moisture to the skin, preventing it from drying out and overcompensating by producing more oil. This balanced approach helps to reduce excess oiliness and improve the overall texture of oily skin,” says dermatologist Dr DM Mahajan.
